So much to tell but here is a snippet of our lives in whippets.
Back in 1978 Carole & I ( Barry) embarked on the wonderful road of showing & breeding whippets.
The hardest thing was finding where to buy a whippet from to show. Eventually after much searching we bought our first show whippet from Mrs Sheila & Mr Vic Ward of Bedford ( Sheerhatch). Sheerhatch Painted Lady was the first star of Selinko Kennels.
Lady qualified for Crufts at her very first Ch. show The Whippet Club. She won Minor Puppy , Puppy, Maiden & Best Puppy in Show under Mrs Audrey Rolls & BP in Show with co judge Mrs Joanna Russell ( Dog judge). Lady then was awarded the R.C.C under Mrs Dorothy Gardiner at E OF E show ( Peterborough.
We were bitten by the show bug , as they say !
We went back to Sheila & Vic & bought Siver Bambi Of Selinko. Bambi was eventually mated to Gillian Ussher's Marlins Dusty Miller Of Iniskhelltr, later to become a Champion on the same day that Fern was awarded her first CC under Dr Edward Jones .
Bambi produced our famous & beautiful fawn girl Ch. Selinko Another Lady ( Fern).
Fern won many awards during her show life not least winning 3 consecutive BIS's at the Whippet Club of Wales , 3 consec BIS's at National Whippet Assoc. & BOB at 3 consecutive BOB's at Crufts from Mrs Pat Selway, Mrs Bobbie Cooke & Mrs Mary Lowe who in fact had awarded her a CC before Crufts , at another Ch show , such a compliment to Fern ! culminating in Reserve in the Hound Group when there were only two placings ( behind Chris Amoo & his BIS winning Afghan.)
Fern was also the Top winning CC holder in the 80's winning 24 CC's, 21 BOB's & 9 R.C.C's
Out of Painted Lady we produced, Selinko Shalama ( Zac) 1 CC by Courthill The Comedian , then our 5 generations of Courthills. The son of Zac produced many fine whippets including Spyanfly He's A Trooper ( Dam was Selinko Celestial Star)
Lady also produced S. Celestial Star who again produced many top whippets including Ch. Spyanfly Say No More , owned by Pauline Oliver.
